Airgun law · World
Are Airguns Legal in Brazil?
Yes, with conditions.
Generally legal, but with real rules to follow, usually age verification and, in some places, a low-power threshold.
Tier 3: Moderate
Threshold-based licensing: a permit-free band for low-power airguns, with a licence required above it.

The rules in detail
Classification
Threshold-based
Airguns ('armas de pressão', spring or compressed gas) are not firearms. Decree 12.345/2024 (in force Dec 31, 2024) raised the free band from 6 mm to 6.35 mm: airguns up to 6.35 mm (.25) are 'uso permitido' (Decree 11.615/2023 Art. 11 §1); above 6.35 mm they are 'uso restrito' (Art. 12 II). There is no joule threshold for airguns.

Above 6.35 mm: restricted-use items: acquisition, listing (apostilamento) and use follow the CAC regime under the Army CR (Art. 11 §2, Art. 12 II). Open carry prohibited; use restricted to non-public places.

Visitor procedure
Calibre, not power, decides: airguns up to 6.35 mm (.177, .22, .25) are permitted-use; larger calibres are restricted and need an Army CR. Organised airgun competition still requires a CR (DFPC, March 2025). Verify current posture as Brazilian arms law shifts politically.
