The rules in detail
Classification
Threshold-based
Firearms and Ammunition Act (Act No. 90/2024 Coll., in force 1 January 2026) replaced the old A–D categories. Gas/air weapons up to 6.35 mm calibre are Category NO (not subject to notification) with no muzzle-energy cap; air weapons over 6.35 mm (other than paintball/airsoft) are Category PO and must be notified to the police.
Age rule
18+
18+ for Category NO airguns (≤6.35 mm); a Category NO air gun may be lent to a 15–17-year-old with a parent's or guardian's consent (Act 90/2024 § 78(5)).
Possession
Licence required
Category NO (≤6.35 mm): free for adults resident in Czechia; storage duty applies. Category PO (>6.35 mm): acquisition must be notified to the regional police within 10 working days and the holder needs a PO authorisation recorded in the Central Register of Weapons (or a firearms licence).
Transfer / sale
Variable
Category NO airguns (≤6.35 mm) can be sold without notification to anyone entitled to hold them, chiefly adults with a registered residence in Czechia or firearms-licence holders. Category PO airguns (>6.35 mm): the buyer must notify the acquisition and the seller the transfer to the regional police within 10 working days, and they cannot be bought by consumer distance contract (online/mail order). Category NO air guns may be lent to 15–17-year-olds with a parent's or guardian's consent.

Visitor procedure
Under Act 90/2024 (from 1 Jan 2026) the general right to hold a Category NO airgun (≤6.35 mm) belongs to adults with a registered residence in Czechia (or firearms-licence holders); a non-resident holds one only as a person entitled to move it across the border. Airguns over 6.35 mm are Category PO: visitors need a European Firearms Pass or a Czech weapons accompanying permit (zbrojní průvodní list) to bring one in, and residents need a registered PO authorisation and must notify the acquisition to police.
