The rules in detail
Classification
Outside firearms scope
Ley N° 7411/2024 (in force January 2025, replacing Ley 4036/2010) defines an 'arma de aire o gas comprimido' as a sporting weapon and states it is not a firearm and not subject to the enforcement authority's control (Art. 3); Art. 16 expressly excludes pneumatic arms (compressed air, CO2, PCP, gas, piston) from the law. Exception: airguns of .30 calibre or larger need an import permit.

Visitor procedure
Customs must notify DIGEMABEL (formerly DIMABEL) within 48 hours of any airgun import so it can be checked on site before release, and airguns of .30 calibre or larger need a DIGEMABEL import permit (Ley 7411/2024, Arts. 3 and 16). Expect an inspection delay; carry the invoice and be ready to show the calibre.
