Firearms Act [Chapter 10:09]: s.3 exempts air-guns, air-rifles and air-pistols from the firearm-certificate regime unless the Minister declares the type "specially dangerous" by statutory instrument. The ZRP Central Firearms Registry lists air rifles above .177 calibre as registrable firearms, so .22 and larger air rifles should be treated as needing a firearm certificate; .177 is outside it.
