What are the basic safe handling rules for airguns?

Treat every airgun as if it is loaded, even when you know it is not.

Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction at all times. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are aimed at your intended target and ready to shoot. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it. Wear eye protection. Never hand a cocked or charged airgun to someone else; uncock or unload first. The same four firearm safety rules apply because airguns can blind, maim, or kill.
